    Default Precision levels

If you want a frame level then the usual suspects listed above are your best bet. Taylor Hobson also made one, as did a Czech firm whose name escapes me right now. I have one that I like quite well.

In the Starrett 199 style levels can be found on US ebay from Lufkin, B & S and Scherr-Tumico. All of those brands made good levels.

If anyone wanted roll their own you can buy precision vials in housings from Geier Bluhm in Rochester, NY

Finally, I will mention again the rebranding by Hahn & Kolb and other firms. My own Wyler magnetic was sold on ebay as an M & M (I think...I cannot check it right now) Anyway, it was the name of a German precision dealer. Messhur und something or other.

ZVL some times sold as Kinex. I think they used to be part of the TOS consortium. before the wall came down. Demco used to sell them. I bought the last 6 they had when they closed decades ago. They called them a TOS level, mine are marked ZVL

Kind of Euro related. I was just using Chris's tip for searching German & French sites for Levels.

And I come across this. eBay | 1 niveau à cadre précision 2/100 mm/ mètre

Dont worry about the level. Bottom of the listing was this.
    A vendre/ For sale

Two Biax scrapers, and a shizen load of masters.

I think the Biax's are gone, but I'm dieing to know what they went for. I'm having trouble searching French Ebay for completed listings. (Ventes terminées)

Can any one here, look those old listings up, They must be recent, as the level is still for sale.

    Regards Phil.

Phil, I get the impression that he is entertaining offers on the scrapers. But considering he's asking 500€ for a prismatic master I bet he wants a pretty sporting price for the Biaces.

Sorry for the many spelling edits. I do not get great results on an ipad

That's maybe why I'm confused. He seems to have listed some of the masters. I'm thinking he hasn't listed the scrapers. I got far enough to check his feed back, and completed listngs. They don't show up.

My dreams of finding a dirt cheap Biax in Europe have just been smashed. If this guy wants 1,290 Euro for this old dog.

The few times that I have searched for a Biax in Euro I have been surprised by the prices. Odd given how cheaply the levels often go. What's Marco doing with his tools?

As someone said earlier, some eBay vendors buy old engineering stuff like plan cabinets, Gerstner tool boxes, and metrology equipment from deceased estates for a song, (often knowing nothing about the equipment), and then try to flog it off as fashion accessories/bling to home decorators. This vendor admits that he doesn't know how a level works,, but he has found where a similar item has sold for 700 quid, so he hopes to get a similar amount for his.
He has a useful instrument, but unfortunately it has fallen into the wrong hands I feel.
    Rob

very sorry I do not know how this works
please mail any Questions and I will try my best to answer them

Have seen similar on ebay at nearly £700

There's often an overpriced example of many things listed on ebay, unsold for years. The deal on ebay stores is repeat listings are free. Sellers can leave an stupidly priced item up to try and condition the market. Then along comes Mr. Deceased Estate and the stupid price gets another booster.

My favourite is rusty machine tools outdoors under a tarp priced like a fully reconditioned one.
