What finish is that?
I'm really get sick and tired of all my bits and pieces rusting up, indoors.
What matt black finish is applied to the door frames of cars? It seems to last for ever.
What charcoal finish is applied to all the modern tin baking trays? Seems to be quite durable.
We need this type of finish for our machined parts.
Any clues?

You mean Aluminium baking trays? The glossy charcoal coating is often a hard anodizing (that is a much thicker anodizing than the silver colored standard anodizing, done in an actively refrigerated anodizing bath allowing the use of higher currents). But there are also non-stick coatings like teflon used on Aluminium baking trays.
Or you mean steel baking trays? The classic ones would be tin coated, usually rust easily and need to be lightly greased after washing. One can also Aluminium coat the steel. Then there are the more expensive enammeled ones - it can be powder enamel, wet dip enamel, or a ceramic enamel like the inside of a baking oven. And they also make steel baking trays with various variations of non-stick coatings.
