One finished optical centrepunch
This is the finished optical centrepunch. I started from scratch again and made the body from brass, the acrylic lens from some larger 12mm rod I had and the punch from a larger diameter pin punch I shortened and turned down on the lathe.
I turned the acrylic rod down to 11mm on one end and polished both the turned down section and the base bore so the lens wouldn't get scratched.
I did try out a convex lens but with the larger 12mm rod it seemed superfluous so I just turned both ends flat again, polished them and scribed cross hairs on the bottom and a circle at top.
This one works really well: easy to see and very accurate, very pleased with this one
The other, I'll use for experimenting with LEDs. But first back to the grinder!

Graham Collins' dimensions.
Graham Collins posted some dimensions in my other post, they're pretty similar, mine only differs on the bottom section a little.

Sacc51--- That looks like a very well made and useful instrument/tool.
After seeing my long sighted mates struggling with clip on reading glasses to thread a #16 dry fly onto a fly fishing leader, I can understand the problem.
Being myopic, all I have to do is look over my glasses and put my nose 100mm away from the work while I position the centre punch--but that's another story.
I think it's a very cool make.
regards
Brian
