Fish-mouthing rod or tube
I'm making a large "clap-trap" for catching Indian Mynas. The frame is made from 8mm 304 SS. As I don't have TIG I have silver soldered the joints with 56% silver solder. To improve the strength of the joints I fish-mouthed the joints by securing the bar in a AXA tool holder and cutting the fish mouth with an 8mm solid carbide end mill (I don't own a milling machine). It works extremely well. As long as the end mill is the same diameter as the rod you get a perfect joint. The silver solder is expensive so a tight joint means I only needed a small amount to make the joint.
I'm sure I'm not the first person to use this method, but I thought I'd share it anyway. I'll certainly be using it again.
