Fitting standard M/T 3 ER32 collet chuck into a Vertex 8" Rotary Table.
Are you able to fit an ER32 M/T 3 Collet chuck into your Vertex 8" Rotary Table.
I have tried but the taper does not go home.
I have not tried this with a 10" either.
Any one been able to fit one.

I have fitted an MT3 arbor to my Vertex 8" Rotary Table a number of times. It seats firmly. I have not blued it to check the contact points - but does not have any give.
I have an ER32 with MT3 shank that I can check tonight if that would be helpful.
Edit; I have a vague recollection that I have an MT3 tool where the shank was too long and would not seat in the RT bore.

Thank you , I was just curious as I went to put one in yesterday to hold an arbor for cutting some gears and it didn't seat.
Didnt matter as I just used one of my M/T arbors and collet chucks.

I did a quick check with my MT3 ER32. It sits up proud of the bore but the taper is seated and tight. I gave mine a light tap with the palm of my hand and then had to pry it back out.
I wonder if yours needs a ream? My experience with this Vertex gear is it's either great or a bit rough. I have two (same model) of their vises. One is perfect and the other is rough around the edges and does not close smoothly. The dividing head I have of theirs purchased a few months back has more run-out at the spindle register than I would like. I wouldn't be all that surprised if your MT bore was not quite right.

Thanks for that I might have to try a couple of bought M/T arbors and see if they fit or not.
The taper does what it should with the ones I have made, and they fit the other M/T 3 bores that I have.
I haven't done any comparisons between the Collet Chuck M/T 3 and my M/T 3 tapers at present.
The Collet chuck in question fits the other M/T 3 bores.

vertex and their tapers
I bought a vertex bs1 dividing head. I was told it had a no.2 morse taper and I had no reason to doubt the salesman. Most of the time, I used it with a 3 jaw so it was no problem, until I needed to throw a collet chuck at it. It wouldn't fit right and no amount of gentle persuasion had any effect. After much sleuthing, I discovered that it had a no.9 Brown & sharp taper, which doesn't fit anything useful that I own. Maybe the rotary table has the same feature?
Cheers Laurie

I can't remember checking the taper on mine. It unfortunately makes sense that it could be a B&S taper given it is a direct copy of the B&S original..
That said I could have sworn my BS1 has an MT3. I distinctly remember putting my test bar in to align it vertically.. Vertex report it's MT3: http://www.vertex-tw.com.tw/products/products_list.php?language=_eng&cid=13#pro
Additionally the H&F site specifies it in their product brochure as MT3: http://www.machineryhouse.com.au/D002

Hi PC, I don't own a 3mt er collet chuck but I do have a 8" vertex RT and have used other 3mt items in the RT without issue and a good, positive fit that required a gentle tap from behind to release. Simon

Thank you for the replies, I haven't measured the taper in the Table but I have tried 5 other bought M/T 3 tapers in it with the same result.
Maybe the large end is a couple of thou to long as all the tapers I have made are slightly longer than the standard and they all go home.
As I have said it doesn't cause me a problem but at least now I can feel certain that there is a slight error in the length of the taper in the Table.

Hi Guys,
FWIW I have a 6 inch Vertex RT with an MT2 taper bore. None of the MT2 taper tools that I have go right down, they all protrude slightly different amounts. Having said that a MT2 reamer sits in the bore perfectly without any play.
