I finally got around to making up a basic fixture plate 240mm x 145mmm x 22mm M6 taped and counter-bored both sides. I went for 9/16" grid spacing as that works well with the 2 1/4" spacing on the compound sine table I have.

I still have a little more to do. I need to add the some taped holes on the side, possibility a clamping slot, chamfer the corners, case harden and heat treat(maybe).

The materiel was welded up from 5 pieces of mild steel. New to welding up plates I did not realised I should have gapped the plates to get the full penetration, I don't think it will hurt it too much..

    Hi Josh,
    Looks great.
Just the one question this time.
Did you stress relieve it after welding?

    Thanks Stu,
I toyed with the idea much like steamed sprouts, so in the end no.. It does make me worry a bit about putting it in for the case hardening. I'm treating more like a functional prototype for some more fixturing I'm planing on making.

    Thanks Ewan,
I like the idea too much to let it go, but I was wondering if I was still able to post in the thread it had seemed that long ago.

Given the depth of case you are likley to get and the amount of power(?) you'll need to use to get it. I think I'd run it through a cycle first and see what happens. Wouldnt take much movement to have you grinding through the case to get it flat again....

For next time. If you are case hardening are you going to temper at all?(I dont believe you need to??). If not are glass hard threads such a good idea?.
