Hi Dean,
It's not that difficult after you have done it a couple of times. Yankalilla, Myponga, Meadows, Echunga, Mt. Barker, home. When you are here, we can look at google earth & I can print off the maps.

Thanks Ian but I will be ok. I have a pretty good sense of direction. I have to cos I keep going away without a map lol. I remember a couple of trips to Melbourne, going all over the place for appointments and shopping all using the GPS only. Rather difficult.There was one appointment that was about 800m from where we were driving along Victoria Street. The GPS said turn right here. The signs, lights and traffic said don't turn here. What should have been a five min drive took 45 mins lol. We finally stopped and bought a map when on the way home cos I took a wrong turn and just wanted to go straight home the quickest way possible by then.

I will have the GPS sorted by then. The trick is to know before hand which way you want to go and keep giving the GPS excuses why you cannot go the way it wants you to until it gives in and lets you have your way, grudgingly. There is a road that I travel every day to work etc that the GPS refuses to accept continues over the border. It also suggests it takes an hour to travel 7 km of dirt road.

Knowing the towns you mentioned which are the same ones Google said to go thru when I checked this morning, I could probably find my way without any assistance at all. I'll be fine.

The other thing I have to decide is which vehicle to bring. We generally take the Rodeo on trips at the moment but a 4WD is not ideal on slow winding roads. I would prefer to have the Falcon Wagon in that case. Either one is good to drive long distance but with better handling and auto the wagon will be easier. Both have all the mod cons such as cruise, ABS and are very comfortable. I need to finish off some work on the wagon before hand tho.

October the 20th. is getting closer for those that are coming to the BBQ get together. Not many starters yet only Gavin & his "much better half" & Dean. There was some interest early on but it seems to have waned. How about Bryan, Eskimo, Michael G & others?

Unlikely. Apart from ruining any good opinion some may have of me (not having met me), being off somewhere with "the guys from the forum" for the majority of the day would consume quantities of domestic credit. While I could ask my wife along as she has absolutely no interest in anything machine like, that probably would not work either.
I've never been 100% sure how much at ease she is with my shed activities. A lot of the time she is quite happy with me "playing with machines" while at other times I feel that there is much less tolerance for it. At the moment with the way work and other things are changing, being home and able to lend support is something I feel would be far wiser.
I'm sure that some of you have been in the same place.

However, as Bryan and Dean (and one or two others) can vouch, I do receive visitors.

Ok I can vouch for Michael receiving visitors. I cannot say much for his parking facilities tho! LOL.

Michael I can understand your position fully. I am fortunate in 2 ways in regard to this matter.

1. My wife does show some interest in my activities although she is unlikely to start metal working, thank goodness.
2. My metal working activities are very beneficial to running this property.

I have finally sorted the route from Yankallila to home this morning. Dead easy to do. Type "Yankallila to Naracoorte" into Google, click on the map to bring up Google Maps which has the right route already selected. Copy the web address. In the TYRE program select File/Import From Website. Paste into address bar of the window that appears and click on import. The route then appears in TYRE. Next is copy to the GPS (Garmin or Tom Tom). I have not done this yet. The only difficult part would be to change the route in Google Maps if this was needed.

This was the first time I have used the import function in TYRE. Like most programs these days the help system is web based. I don't know about anybody else but I find that web based help systems are pretty close to completely useless. They are never laid out in a useful way and you cannot do a search unless you happen to be on the right page. I wanted to refresh my sketchy knowledge of how to use the program but gave up after about the 3rd new web page still had not got to the actual info. I did go back later and with one click learnt how to import. Its not much fun doing all this with a slow connection. With forum pages I click on about 4 and go play solitaire. The speed has got a lot worse in recent months.

The initials given were R Q - the only person I know with Q as a surname is Greg. At the time I was thinking star wars (Darth Vader - "Luke, I am your father"). He couldn't be your father, but a long lost brother?
