Has anyone actually managed to download any of these books?
The one I just tried on Toolmaking was not a success. I tried to download the PDf only to be taken to google's E-bookstore, the DJVU version seems to be a dead link as well.
I can read it online though the scan quality is not that good but I'd rather download and save so I can read at my leisure.
Maybe its just me.

Downloading Google Books
The difference between down loading the Drill Jig book and the Toolmaking Book in PDF is that the toolmaking book is a google book download.
Unless you live in the USA, google books does not permit downloads - apparently because of copyright breach concerns.
There are two possible solutions that I know of.
1. Use a proxy server that surfaces in US - google then thinks that you are in US and will present the download options on the page. Do a web search for "proxy server"
2. Download the book in another format and install a reader for that format. EPUB is well supported by most E-book reader software.
You can also download and install Calibre, a free book format converter and convert your epub or mobi format to pdf.

Nice collection of books on that link. Thank you.
Cheers,

Hi, I have successfully downloaded "Toolmaking" by Markham. I don't know whether Google purposely or accidentally make the link wrong as I have come across this before.
The way I do it is, firstly I use Mozilla Firefox browser and there is a free add-on called "Flash Got" FlashGot - Best Firefox Download Manager Integration - what is it? - InformAction
On this page Tool making; a practical treatise on the art of making tools, jigs, and fixtures, with helpful suggestions on heat treatment of carbon and high-speed steels for tools, punches, and dies : Markham, E. R. (Edward Russell), b. 1860 : Free Download & Str the pdf file(2nd on list on left) just takes you Google books and nowhere to download.
So I select the Read Online option, as the book is opening up I select the the "One Page View" button that is on the bottom right hand side menu, it's the single rectangle button, this makes the book readable in the vertical mode. I have found this mode better for enlarging when viewing in Adobe pdf viewer because the two pages side by side mode is a pain to read when enlarged.
Now once the book starts downloading on screen in the vertical pages format I "right click" on the page and select "Flash Got All", A little window comes up and you can save the files where you want. I make a seperate directory for this because there will be a number of smaller files that aren't needed and can be deleted later as the only file needed is the pdf file.
Job done, now just go in and delete the unwanted files. You now have a pdf with pages in the vertical format that you can enlarge as required within your pdf reader.
Cheers. If I'm not right, then I'm wrong, I'll just go bend some more bananas.

Hi matthew_g, how did you achieve that, when viewing it on line I can't find any option for PDF save as you have mentioned. I'm running Firefox 13.0.1 which is the latest I think.
Is it the Toolmaking by Markham book? from this page, Tool making; a practical treatise on the art of making tools, jigs, and fixtures, with helpful suggestions on heat treatment of carbon and high-speed steels for tools, punches, and dies : Markham, E. R. (Edward Russell), b. 1860 : Free Download & Str

The first one(12.4meg) I used a poxy from the states to dl.(it has the google water marks)
The second...Go to the page log linked to, click "All Files: HTTP", dl the 8.19meg one.
The bad news is the 8.19 is missing at least 2 pages 152-153, also I dont think the scans are as good.
