    Default G'day from South Africa

Dave J suggested that I post a short intro. here in the metal working forum as I am not into wood working at all. (So blame Dave J if it is wrong )
Fully retired my main hobby interests lies in metal machining - model engineering, and all the bits and pieces that go with it.
I will try to contribute /participate as much as I can. My main endeavour is to enjoy it so here's to an enjoyable time together.
    Thank you
    Dave'H

    Hello Bryan,
just the normal metal working stuff - nothing special

    RF30 Mill
    12x36 lathe
    9x20 lathe
    Unimat lathe
    Sherline lathe
    Sherline CNC Mill
    Hor. Band saw 4x6
    Vert Band saw Atlas
bits and pieces that go with the mil and lathe rotary table - that sort of thing.
    stick welder thing.
    Grinders

    That's about it.

    Default Welcome

    Dave'H
    Welcome,
You are nearing my vintage (age) & I for one am interested in hearing more from you, as Bryan has asked lets know what machines you have, etc.
I am retired & spend a lot of time in the workshop, doing a bit of woodwork & metalwork, generally fiddling.
Model Eng.... Ive built a small horizontal steam engine, which I run on compressed air.
It took me about 6yrs on & off to build it. No rush !
    Here are a few photos.
    regards
    Bruce

Thanks Bob, you bought me a very good laugh
Some people ie non technical, non workshop types, ask me, what do I do with my time?
    My answer....."Busy doing nothing"
That generally moves the conversation along, because I guess you will understand, its too hard to explain.

    Default Castings for Models

I always had in mind to build a model steam engine but did not want to get involved with Locos & taking the finished thing to a track.
The Bolton No 7 Horizontal stationary engine had appeal because every so often it can be started up & run on air & generally stared at in a mesmorised mental state
The castings & drawings were obtained from E.J Winter Model Eng supplies, near Hexham NSW they have heaps of models metals & tooling, & will mail stuff to you.
Just Google them & all will be seen.
I have considered building a Triple Expansion Engine, but as my young grandson pointed out to me, "If the last engine took you 6 yrs to make, then this one will take you 20yrs"
OK that will mean I am 90 when its finished, maybe a start should be made now .
    regards

    Hiya Bruce,

Nicely made Mill engine. Looks very nice

I have always ran mine on compressed air, easier than steam, especially with the grand kids wanting to touch.
Also I just could not be bothered to make a boiler. (I'm lazy)

Seems I got a little too excited on the lathe part, and I just don't like to part with them.
