    Default need a gear

    Hi fellow metal termites.
I need to make a gear for my dremel drill press as the plastic one shattered due to age according to Dremel. Nope, can't buy just the gear need to buy the whoe kit at $100+ even though it is easy to disassemble. Not an option as on pension and so I thought you have the machinery why not make one? Only drawback is I dont have a clue on gear cutting and no dividing head. The gear in question is 14mm (9/16th") thick, 38mm (1.5") diam and has 16 teeth and is of rack & pinion gearing.
As there is not a lot of pressure involved I am thinking aluminium or delrin as with delrin I may be able to use the scrollsaw. With aluminium I would need exta tools and the minister for war & peace said no. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Pete,

Have a look at this site, and see if there is something suitable.

I'm guessing module 2, or somewhere close to that, look at the shape of the teeth to figure out pressure angle..

Thanks for the link Ray. Nope nothing there.
Might have to make a delrin 1. Made various types with scrollsaw for wooden clocks and have the material. Was hoping there was a generic 1 I could get.

Bosch, in Melbourne are the agents for Dremel so may be worth a try.
Powergrip also have a selection of small gears for toothed belt systems

Thanks for all the replies fellas but problem solved.
Made a gear from a piece of hardwood and a new shaft and fitting to the way it was done by dremel. I will see how it goes and if need be I'll make a metal gear.
