    Default German engineering wow!

    Hi All.
My neighbour works in a Print House and brings me some of their old machines that are ready for the scrap bins.
Here is the latest, some usable steel and alloy[up to 19mm] with bearing housings, shafts and 90deg drives [hand and power].
German engineering what can i say, it was a pleasure to break it apart and see the workmanship even the large 12mm steel sideplates are ground flat.

Have broken down the main gearbox here, there is a solid 2:1 90deg drive which i will be able to make a coldsaw with using a 3ph motor /vfd. Each end is a solid steel cylinder[appx 120mm dia] one with bearing and shaft, next to those are 2 cast housings
of which i do not have any. It's all good gear and will sit under the bench till i am ready to use it, my list of projects just gets longer. SWMBO said the usual " what do you want that for" they are a funny breed when they think hoarding Tupperware and hoarding steel are not the same.

I you have the room for it and you think there is even a remote possibility of using it in a project.................. Squirrel it away I say!

In five years if you change your mind then just take it to scrap metal, no harm done. How many times have you passed up an offer on a piece of "junk" or thrown something out, only to find in a year or 2 that you had the perfect use for it?

Girl, I don't wanna know about your mild-mannered alter ego or anything like that." I mean, you tell me you're, uh, super-mega-ultra-lightning babe? That's all right with me. I'm good. I'm good.

    G'Day Fellas,
When scrapping German mailing machines I always scrounge as many nuts, bolts and capscrews as I can, as fasteners of such high quality are pretty rare at any price here.
    Regards,
    Martin

    Default Junk!

Thomas A. Edison is quoted as saying: 'To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk.' I think he should have known what he was talking about.
    Mm.

I have few German engineered tools. Even my band saw blades are German engineered.

    Me Again
Just broke down the last of the glue machine, lots of useful goodies.
Have a look at the last photo it's a unusual looking extension spring, I have not seen one before but my background is in automotive maybe any fitters out there have.
    Thanks for the replies.
