Getting cutters sharpened in Melbourne
Does anyone know of a place in Melbourne to get cutters sharpened?
I think the TAFE I went to got theirs done somewhere in Preston but I’m not 100% sure.
I’ve got a nice Clarkson dovetail cutter I lent to someone and it came back cooked.
I wanted to check what it cost to sharpen so I could work out if it was worth doing that or just buying a new one.
Cheers,
Greg.

Thanks for the info fellas, The Coburg one is nice and close so I might give them a try first.
I will let you know how I go.
On a different matter, can someone tell me why hitting return doesn't work when I'm writing a post?
I have to type my post in a text file then paste it in or everything is on one line.
I'm sure it's an error at layer eight (operator) but if anyone can tell me where I'm going wrong that would be great.
Thanks again.
Cheers,
Greg.

I've had that problem before, can't remember if it was on here or somewhere else (was a while ago). Think the trick I found to work around the problem was to use the enter key on the number pad (assuming you have a full size keyboard...)
I now can't remember though if there was actually something wrong with my PC or not - I think there may have been some software issue, but not 100% on that one.

I'm using IE 10.
Did some Googling and it turns out IE 10 is the source of the problem, surprise surprise .
Apparently IE 10 doesn't work properly with a java functionality used by some forums and the workaround is to change browser mode to IE 9.
To do this, hit the F12 key on keyboard which brings up the IE debug window.
From the top menu click browser mode and select Internet Explorer 9, page will reload and all edit functionality now works, dickety boo!
Of course another workaround is to install a different browser but until the day I can uninstall IE, I personally don't see the point in loading some other program to do the same thing.
Cheers,
Greg.

Sharpening cutters
Hi Greg
I cant remember the names but there are a couple of guys that have mobile sharpening facilities.
The one I used about 10 years ago had a callout fee of $50 which covered the first 1/2 hour after which you pay extra. They will charge more these days I suppose but the guy I used was excellent. He did 4 cutters for me in that 1/2 hour.

Just an update on this one, I ended up going to Northern Sharpening to get my cutters done simply because they were the closest.
I took two cutters, the Clarkson 60 degree dovetail and a Dormer 16mm 3 flute slot drill.
I spoke to George and he was really good, he checked each cutter and confirmed how I wanted them sharpened (maintain the diameter of the 16mm cutter, etc).
He said they would be done by the following day, I said there was no rush but they were still done within two days.
Price was probably about 1/3 of what they would cost to replace with new ones (of the same quality) and they're just as good.
If anyone else is looking to get cutters or any other tools, knives etc sharpened then I would happily recommend these blokes.
The Deer Park fellas are further away but I'd like to give them a go too, perhaps next time.
Cheers,
Greg.
