Default Can someone grind a MT1 taper on a threaded rod for me.

I have picked up an old woodworking lathe for use as a dedicated buffing station but it has a MT1 drive.

I currently have a 3' threaded rod, with all the buffing wheels, which has a MT 2 taper on one end, which I use on my current woodworking lathe which needs to be reground to fit the MT 1 on the new lathe.

Can anyone in Melbourne help me.

    Peter.

Would one of these do, Jacobs Standard Drill Sockets

Makes it a little longer though.

That would work but it would be neater and better if the rod was reground to the MT1. I tried H & F for a similar kind of adapter but to no avail and getting it from the US would become rather expensive.

Peter, McJIng has an MTSE2-1 adapter which fits inside your MT1 and gives you an MT2, all that for $29.

I don't think that anyone could do the re-machining of an MT2 to MT1 for that sort of money.

Thanks for that Fred as that would fit the bill.

As it's not very urgent as yet I will try to set up my metal lathe first and start of with practicing to machine MT1 tapers before buying it. I may need help trying to learn how to machine tapers but it would start me on the way to learn metal turning.

    Peter.

If you plan on turning a lot of tapers, why not make a taper turning attachment. I made one out of Model Engineers Workshop and it works great. It has micro adjustment that allow infinite control of angle. Let me know if you want details of the magazine or copies posted, as I don't know how to attach photo's files etc. It is spread over 2 mags.

If you don't mind posting it to SA, I could taper turn it for you - I owe a few favours at the moment.

Without seeing a picture of the unit (but I somehow doubt there's 3 *feet* of rod attached to an MT2 arbour) it's hard to be sure, but....

There's this technology called 'welding' and you find someone to weld a chunk of allthread or similar to an MT1 adaptor, or if you need it really accurate, weld an oversized piece of steel and then machine it down to size & thread it.

I could have that done one hell of a lot sooner than mucking about and buggering up a perfectly good MT2 setup.
