A chip shield is not difficult. I added the catch tin because I was lazy and thought it would save a bit of sweeping effort on my part.

I found this the other day on Grey’s when looking for a shaper. Prices looked O.K to me.

The add says, “The Mortgagee In Possession & A Major Distributor”. I don’t know if its the same one, but I’ve noticed a glut of that stuff lately, being moved for real cheap prices. At all sorts of places, my industrial supplier, bearing company etc.
Soft nylon endless strings, I picked up some 1 t by 1 metre for $2.90. The 2.5t webbing load restraints like in Rays picture. $17.50 including the ratchet. There’s never been a cheaper time to stock up on a few of those things.

Hi,
After some scrubbing and a lot of kero, i found a machine under all the dust and grease! She has had a dulux rebuild at some stage, everywhere that was not exposed is grey, the rest is green....The grey is in pretty good shape but the green parts are flaking all over, so i think i will give her a full paint. At least one bearing will need to be replaced, the original bronze has had a fairly poor babit fix at some stage. I have not yet got to the flywheel bearing but hope i don't have to replace it. I can only imagine it will be pretty big!
On inspection there is some "funny business" around the clutch and V belt pulley. I don't think they were original but if not the work has been done pretty neatly so nothing needs fixing there. The clutch is identical to the one on Blondie, a "Nuttal Clutch".

Button Oilers
Hiya jhovel
Just this week I was after some button oilers, went to the local CBC in Darwin and they chased them up through their AlemLube catalog
The 8mm oilers I got were $6 each to here and the part # was 1888 ( I Think )
Arrived next day from the other side of the country so I'm more than happy with that

thanks for that info as well. I had already asked my local bearing services and bolts and fasteners suppliers - none were as low as $6 each.
Becasue I need at least 10, the UK price for a pack of 20 is very attractive and I might try a piggiback order with someone else in the first instance.

FWIW the ones in the RDG ad look like the (Chinese) ones I got to replace the original ones on the Brackenbury and Austin lathe which were destroyed in a house move. They are very thin brass, but work OK. However, the long exposed ends of the cap springs, which can be seen in RDG's photo, are very sharp and capable of causing deep scratches and puncture wounds, as I found numerous times after I first installed them - I am a slow learner!

Joe,
Don's Alemlube oilers may be the English Adams brand. I have both an Adams and a Alemite catalog. I can photograph the relevant pages if need be. A few years ago I wanted some new Adams cup oilers for my Hercus. I ordered a bag of oilers and was supplied with a chunky sub continental oiler variation made by Summit. Being anal, I returned them and they ordered the originals from England. Most people wouldn't give a stuff but some do.

Lots more cleaning and final dissembly today. I'm going pretty hard at it cause i just want to get in and get her going!
Some interesting punchings on the ram guides, not too sure what they all mean......
Whilst the kero was affecting my brain, the thought occurred to me that National Engineering could have bought her new, and she could be a one owner job.....
Someone had repaired the dovetail for the stroke adjustment at some stage, but thats the only repair i can find. All the gears ring like bells, and are in pretty good shape considering the age, just a de-bur and they will be good to go.
The main bearing is steel on cast and is in fine condition.
Lots of pics, just for you BT, us Canberrans know what camera's are.......funnily enough the camera shop i drove past in young still has a giant roll of film as their sign.....
The rest of her bits...the arm is HUGE i think heavier than the flywheel.

More shiny parts today....but we had a bit of a disagreement over getting the clutch off.
I loosened the one grub screw i could find, but still the clutch was stuck on the shaft....so i put it on the press and gave it a couple of ton, only to have it move a few mm and then stop. One more pump and....thunk...the nearly inaudible sound of cast iron cracking echo's around the shed...followed by some much louder words... Turns out some ####stick put in 2 grub screws....one on top of the other
Now comes the decision, do i try to braze (i have plenty of soldering experience but none brazing) or remake? The engagement ring/collar is pretty worn so i guess its a good excuse to remake it in bronze (like Blondies is) rather than cast iron. Suggestions?
With all the teeth i have cleaned in the last 2 days i think i could be a dentist....if only i got $50 for every one....or i could drill, chisel, smash a few off and charge a couple of grand....

Hi Ewan,
Bummer.... I feel your pain..
I can't help with the brazing much, except that I think you have to heat the whole part to brazing temperature and cool slowly to avoid cracking.
Might be easier to make a new part from steel, you could turn the bottom part then weld some oversized flat sections for the dogs (if that's what those bits are called) then mill to final size with a rotary table... Interesting problem..
