handrail protection
Our local school has tubular steel handrails to the internal stairs. They are painted, but seem to require repainting every second year due to wear from many little hands and there is a fair amount of chipping.
Looking for advice on either some form of plastic covering (bearing in mind the rail twists and turns) or alternatively the most durable (and inexpensive) paint-like coating to use.

Why not leave the rail bare?
What is the rail made from - stainless steel, mild steel, aluminium?Cheers.

school handrails...... I use to find those small pkts of tomato sauce worked well

You would probably need to get them abrasive blasted before you could powdercoat them.
Unfortunately, there is no "cheap and good" way of doing the job.
A professional painter that is licensed (OH&S) to use industrial epoxies may be another way to do the job. It can obviously be done in situ then, rather than having to remove it all and transport to a powder coating plant.
If you go with something like AcraPoxy, et al, you must ensure that the job is done, and cured while the little tikes are on hols.
Get in touch with the Dulux rep for your area. He/she will give you the best painting options, and line you up with a decent painter.
