Default Hares & Forbes 10Ton Hydraulic puller kit

    Hi,

I'm looking into buying a hydraulic puller kit, i've noticed Hares & Forbes have a kit for sale that is reasonably priced. Anyone used this before, any quality issues with it or should I spend my money on something else?

    Thanks

That looks exactly the same as the one I bought from Autotools in Hallam except the case is different, have had no probs with mine.

    HI Com VC,
I bought one of these Hydraulic 10 ton Puller Kits in 2003. I paid $300.00 for it then of B.J. Bearings in Bairnsdale. I think mine might be a 'TRAX' one its Product Code on the Invoice is 'ARX-YC101B Blue'. The 'BLUE' might only be, because it came in a Blue Plastic Box. I checked Your Link, Mine came with all that Displayed - it also came with a long Thread and and Adaptor to use the unit as a Manual Puller.

These Puller Kits are an Asset to have. Mine has been so Handy over the Years that I have had it. My only suggestion is Shop Around. Hare and Forbes normally have an Annual Sale in March.

ive had one of those for 15 years the only problem if the little plastic end on the screw in part of the ram gets air in its very difficult to replace. the fluid inside is just some sort of grease. while it was working it did a great job .ive seen replacement rams are available from ozmestore on ebay

    Thanks tanii51,

I bought mine in 1989 and the same thing happened to mine, didn't think to look on ebay for a replacement ram.

    Hi Com_VC,

I have one of the Hare Forbes pullers. Acceptable for the money but I broke one of the approx 450mm extension posts - a crack formed at the base of the threaded end of the rod - it was not a 90 degree pull and that combined with the gap in the 2 armed bar meant there was some torque - I was still surprised.

I drilled out the extension piece, and threaded it for some "all-thread" and that has survived ever since.

Having used one of the original European pullers - these are not to that standard and I wonder if the pull is 10 ton (it would not shift a 2" splined shaft in an old tractor repair but that ended up needing a lot more persuasion due to the combination of dirt and rust and an inconvenient gap) but it is better than the dinky thread driven 3 leg puller I previously used.

    cheers
