Yep, spindle is threaded. No access from back if spindle to mount screws from behind. Screws are socked head. Plan was to drill through chuck from front and counterbore for socked head, same as Toyo or as you see with the TOS.
Anyway I was looking in a cupboard here for something else earlier and come across a plastic container with some bits in it. Some of those bits IIRC are a set of gears and odds and ends which may be thread cutting gears set for the Toyo. Will have to have a closer look at those little treasures. I know they are a gear set for some small lathe. Forgot I had them.
Next was a small (65mm) three jaw chuck, with an MT2 adapter attached with an M14 thread. Forgot that was there also and can't remember why I originally bought it. Anyway I measured the back and guess what? It's a whisker under 36mm. Perfect for what I want and just need to dismantle it and check that I can bore holes through it without interfering with the scroll. Plenty of metal on the back to rebore to the 22mm register.
Can't believe I spent so much time searching for these and there was one here all that time. It's a Soba brand. Will search the part number to see if they are still available and possibly find a 4 jaw as well.

Good one, lets hope the scroll is nowhere near where you have to drill your through holes, that's what I was wondering/worried about if you planned to buy a Sherline and tried to drill through it.
Cheers.
PS. Mind you, that Tos is a nice looking little chuck though,,,,,,,mmmmLast edited by Log; 21st July 2012 at 08:52 PM. Reason: added PS
If I'm not right, then I'm wrong, I'll just go bend some more bananas.

Yeah, the TOS is great. Bison do a nice one in the 3 jaw with threaded back, but at about $350.00 I think it's a little rich.J
Just dismantled that chuck and it will be perfect for what I need providing I can drill it. Next question is how hard do you think these are?
Trying to hunt down the 4 jaw version of this now.

Hey Nev
Toyo now manufactured by Manix in (I think) Korea. They seem to make the full range of parts and accessories, but the only supplier I know is here in the UK at Rejon Machine Tools - Manix, Proxxon, Unimat 4, Emco, Toyo Record Products click on the Manix link top right and select ML210, if your lathe is the small one. Try Google and you may find someone closer to you. Good luck.
