Default Help needed with DRO set up

    Hi all,
I am currently learning to use a Easson ES-14 DRO on my milling machine, basic functions appear to be o.k, however when I move the table one inch I'm seeing something like 12.8855. It will carry out things like center find o.k. but the numbers are wrong.
The dro came with the mill, both in used condition, it had been disconnected from the mill for safety during transport. Do they have to do a relearn? There is a user manual, it does not have a trouble shooting section and i can't find anything on google re this problem.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Regards
    Ted

I'm not familiar with the Easson DRO, but when used on lathes, some DROs can halve the setting on a scale so that it is reading diameter. Check your manual as that setting may be incorrect for what you are doing. The other thing may be the pulses from the scales - if you have 10 micron scales and the DRO is set at 5 micron you will get scaling too.

    What Michael said. page 99

    then
page 101 for Linear Error Compensation
    102 for non linear comp

I havent bothered with the rest of the manual but if I recall correctly the Easson have a battery that needs replacing now and then?(maybe thats the reason its lost its settings)

Was it working properly before you transported it home? If it was, and the scale did not get damaged in transport, you could try a factory reset as described in the manual. Apart from that, check for a broken glass scale or damaged reader head by removing one of the end caps from the aluminium housing and sliding it out.

    Thanks all,
The DRO does have a internal battery, no access, I have done the factory reset, all good, changed from radius to diameter, no good, changed resolution, no good.
It was working before transportation, maybe the scales maybe the scales are damaged.

Does that change the numbers you are getting? it should double them. Though rad is the correct setting.
Has the DRO remembered your resolution setting?(though thinking about it a little more the Easson only make 0.005mm and 0.001mm scales, so it seems like that cant be the problem)
Are both axis(all three if you have Z) doing the same thing?
As you get 12.8855 for 1" do you get 25.6 for 2"?

With my broken scale it was dead easy to tell, it would stop counting at the break then start again on the other side.

    Stuart,
Changing from radius to diameter did change the numbers, I didn't check to see if they exactly doubled or halved, initially I thought that had solved the problem, however after .500 it lost the plot.
X and Y are doing the same thing, I haven't checked Z, the count does not skip a beat, You are also correct about the resolution.
My owners manual is similar to the current one from Hare and Forbes, there are also a couple of short videos on the net done by DRO PROS, the one on setup is much the same as the manual and none of there videos have a troubleshooting segment (they are quite good though).
Although the mill was 'blocked' for transport I'm sort of thinking vibration has caused a problem, when it is rectified I'll let you know. Thanks for your interest and help.
    Regards
    Ted
