Default Gib strip material available..cast iron.

    G'day Y'all. ( don't ask)

I have a couple of used Felder cast iron sliding tables that I plan to saw up for dovetail spotting masters. I was wondering if the ribs, properly sawn away would be of any value? They would be about 26mm wide, about 230 long and 10mm thick. They might do nicely for Hercus cross slide gibs, but that's a guess on my part.

Let me know if this might be something that would be up your alley. I will cut them with zero sense of urgency, and supply them for postage only.

These could be handy for making small laps.
That is holes drilled & reamed in the cast iron, then a slot cut & adjusting screw tapped to adjust the hole size. A small application of fine lapping paste & the laps used on rotating hardened pins & the like in the lathe, for removing that final couple of "tenths"
Cast iron is good for this, I have made a few laps in this manner, & they work well.

Greg, I'll put my hand up for one of those 'spare ribs' if and when the time comes.

    Greg,
I am starting to take an interest in scraping, so mark me down for one of those ribs.
