    Default Himount lathes

    Guys ('n dolls),

I have a lead on a Taiwanese metal working lathe called a Himount (Model TT1240BG).
I did a search on the web and Himount are still in business.
The company is only 30 years old so the lathe cannot be any older than this.

The one I'm looking at looks closest to this one in their current range. http://www.himount.com/detail.aspx?s...e9=0LA22304+++

It was bought new and looks like its been well maintained - it looks like it weighs about 3/4 ton.

Has anyone ever heard of them or know what they are like?

    Thanks

They are all pretty much the same but being Taiwanese it should be better than a Chinese one.
I have never heard of that brand but there are a lot out their that keep popping up.
If it looks well maintained and doesn't have heaps of wear it should be all right and serve you for many years to come.
Though this one is bigger, keep in mind the price of a new Chinese lathe which are around $3000 at the moment.

Thanks Dave. I'm no expert and I never had a chance to meet the actual owner (he died 10 years ago) but apparently he it was really fussy about his gear and spent a lot of time getting it working just so. I didn't get a chance to run it, but all the moving bits feel smooth and tight.
    Cheers
