    Default Thoughts on HM-32 Mill

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on the H&F HM-32 Mill/Drill, it will be on special next week for $1265, which is about what my budget can stretch to at the moment.

I know it's a round column, but that doesn't really bother me.

Was originally considering an X2, but they only seem good for Alluminium and soft metals, is this right.

    Thanks Shane.

    Hi Shane,

I'll ask the obvious question, what are you planning to use it for?

    G'day Shane,
I have the same machine and am quite happy with it, unfortunately the $1265 is only the beginning, to get it useable you will need to budget for a decent stand or bench (the bugger weighs300 Kg) , the vise that comes as standard is total rubbish, so allow for a something reasonable , then we start on collet chuck, collets, end mills, clamp kit and if you really want to put lipstick on a pig, coolant, DRO and power feed kit. I would estimate that I spent another $1000 on top of the machine price.
    Regards,
    Martin

I say go for it, no matter what mill you buy you will need tooling for it. From memory it is MT3 so tooling is easy to get from here or overseas. Overseas is where I recommend you get it from, CTC comes to mind for cheap stuff.
It is a much better mill than the X3 for steel and at that price it's a bargain.

The mill is only $1265, almost every machine new or second hand will need tooling, unless you pick up a bargain with tooling.

I have the older model rf 32. I love it as it does what i need to do in terms of milling. the only issue is you need to plan your job so you dont have to move the head and loose alignment with the part.
BETTER TO HAVE TOOLS YOU DON'T NEED THAN TO NEED TOOLS YOU DON'T HAVE

Thanks for the replies, I have quite a bit of tooling and bits and pieces (3MT) so tooling etc is not an issue, I think for the price I can't really go wrong.
