I need to get some expanding small hole gauges for hole measurement up to around 10mm. By the looks of it the typical Mitutoyo ones in a set of 4 go cover from 3-13mm.
I really can't justify $150 for those, but definitely don't want to buy cheap import crap that I'm going to hate using. Already been down that with telescopic gauges - the cheap ebay specials were just rough and horrible, both in finish and use. Didn't clamp well unless you cranked on them, then you struggled to get them undone again.
I ended up with Mitutoyo ones in the end anyway...

Anyone have a recommendation for something mid range in terms of price/quality?
I'm not picky about brand as long as they are nice to use and do the job.

Also, I see there are 2 common styles available. One style has a full sphere measuring ball, the other just slightly more than a hemisphere.
I'm pretty sure the Mitutoyo ones I used in a past life were the hemisphere type and I can see an advantage in them being able to get to full diameter in shallower holes. The full sphere ones look like they need a bit more depth. Any feedback on that?

Cheers - Steve
