This pretty much the same as ours at work ,definitely not a converted turret machine.
KONDIA - Catálogo A15
Our chip conveyor is different to this one .The one on this web page is probably a later model .But it looks identical.
Not sure if it talks but the operator does a lot of swearing and cursing when it dies part way through a job .

Kev interesting you working on P76 had two mates worked here at Leyland Sydney one went on to the Leyland national sales side.[/QUOTE]
I didnt actually work on the vehicles at Leyland ,but worked in a tool room that had contracted to make some of the tooling .
I can't remember all of the tooling that we made ,there were other contracts going on as well .
I do remember working on the bonnet forming die ,door panel dies and a heap of other smaller stamping press dies for smaller parts .
I spent months standing in one place every day on a spotting press , grinding ,and scraping and stoning the high spots on the machined die surfaces to get a perfect surface for forming the panels. The only thing that saved my legs was the 6 kilometre pushbike ride to work and back every day .
My feet and legs ached no end ,no rubber matting only wooden duck boards to stand on.
I reckon the pushie saved me from varicose veins . OH&S wasn't as prevalent then ,it was still a factor but not like it is today .
If you got an injury , you were up for a lecture from the tool room manager and an explanation of how and why .
No glory in tool room work , glad I finally saw the light and got out of it ,some of the blokes I worked with were relics ,same job day in day out for 40 odd years .
I decided to travel around and try other avenues in the metal work /engineering business .

ahh OK I was expecting it to be one of those turret mills that are CNC conversions...

Another reason for machining from billet is if you want to use an alloy that isn't castable. Something you wouldnt do on a toyota corolla, but you might on bugatti veyron.
