Is the Arbor a bought arbor for your slitting saw or to suit the horizontal capability of the mill.
If the latter,1st thing would be to cut a key way in it , if not the full length then at least half of it.
Next would be to make up a series of arbor spaces ranging in size from 1/16" to 3",and then you may also need shims but not that critical. (These can all be purchased if cant be made).
Cutters depending on the job,but if you were to come across a selection that were cheap I would just buy them as long as the bore is correct.
With the mill you could use a slab cutter up to 3 to 4" long maybe 3" OD,Side and face cutters of almost any size, profile cutters, angled cutters of different degrees both single and double angle, involute gear cutters, the list goes on.
If you dont have the keyway it might not work as expected.

Hi John,
As PC says you will need to cut a keyway in the arbor, i think the standard for a 1" is 1/4" but i have some 1" bore cutters with 3/16" (or is it 3/16" and i have a cutter with an 1/8"? I can't remember) keyways. Have a search on ebay for "Slab milling" or "Slab cutter", and for "Side and Face cutter". Make sure you look worldwide, I have picked up some bargains on hardly used cutters mostly out of the UK. I think Mick Moyles also has some side and face cutters pretty cheap too.
A note on your slitting saws, do not put a key in them, just key the spacers either side. If they move at all with a key in them they will cut into the key steel and you will have a hell of a time getting them off. Found that out the hard way!
Cheers,

With small cutters you can get away without a keyway in the arbor. I have been for 30 years now. Slab cutters or wide side & face cutters, maybe not.
Mick Moyles has a lot of cutters (or did the last time I was there) but not a lot I considered useful and most of those needed sharpening.
Horizontal mills lead directly to a tool & cutter grinder.....
