Ha!. thanks Stuart.. no masking tape needed, there's a button for x10 (0.01 resolution) or x1 ( 0.1 resolution) but there's also a scary x36 resolution extender, it's a bit like that movie Space Balls, the bit where you've got ridiculous speed, ludicrous speed... etc...

So let's see. At it's native resolution of ten nanometers, with extender you'd be looking at three Angstrom units...a couple of atoms? I am stumped for a witty bon mot to go with that. It is impressive as hell.

I feel like handlebar Phil right now....my head just exploded!
That is super impressive.....now i have a related question that i have pondered for a long time but never got a straight answer to that relates here.
Does gravity effect light beams? Mind you, i guess at those levels gravity would be the last thing you would need to worry about, the fly bumping the window would affect it, or as Phil said, his sneeze.....

Well yes, that is why a black hole is well, black... gravity even distorts time...

Yes. but then it effects time as well

Just watched a show on making holograms. The laser bean is split and projected onto a screen showing the fringe pattern. The guy taps his fingers on a 2.5 ton cast iron table and the fringe pattern disappears into noise. Much like Phils long distance sneeze I guess.

p.s. What do I get for second place?

    Default Quick Demo

Here's a quick demo... I think the material temperature sensor and air temperature/humidity sensor with the Automatic Compensator will make a big difference to the stability

    That is really quite impressive..

Does it self calibrate somehow so you know when you are scraping you really have reached a flatness to 0.0001mm and not an inferior 0.0002mm?

    Default HP 5526A Laser Interferometer

    Fantastic Ray,
I've heard the stories about temperature/dimension changes but outstanding to see it being measured.
