I'm making a small hydraulic cylinder, 30mm diam x 2mm thick wall turned from 1020 mild steel, and would like if possible advice on the end cap threads, max PSI would be up to 800psi.
What I am proposing is an end cap that would screw onto the outside of the cylinder, thread would be around 18mm long, 24TPI, 0.68mm deep - I have an imperial 8TPI leadscrew on the lathe and would like to keep the thread a multiple of 8 for ease of screw cutting, sorry for the mix of imperial and metric. Would this thread be strong enough or is it likely to fail and the end cap blow off.
