If only
If only they would say "help yourself", on a recent delivery to a scrap metal yard it took me 20 minutes to unload slowly moving passed piles of scrap to the spot i was to tip, all the way around i was saying "geez look at that " "oh i could use that for" there was even a huge radial arm thingy must of weighed 10t.
Anyway i took these photo's which is the last of the stockpiles near the exit.
Photo 1: 50mm flat near blue bin and under the bent roof iron are 100x 25 round
plugs [hard to see]
Photo 2: Patio heater covers, maybe a good start to a small cyclone.
Photo 3 : Another stainless pile.
Photo 4 : 75to25mm black and bright bar hidden in the swarf, I could see about 10 pieces.
Photo 5 : Pipe reducers for the garden [1mt Dia] would look good rusted with plants in them.
W.H.A.S. laws stop the public from entering these yards, it's a pity these yards don't operate a retail shop.
P.S. How do i post this thread i the New Posts section

I guess you could always ask the scrapman if something that you want is for sale......,but in this day 'n age of OH&S and all the touchy, warm 'n fuzzy attitudes that everyone has to display, the scrapman would be hesitant to allow people to rumage through scrap piles in fear of something going wrong and them getting sued.

HI,
O.H.S. is there for a reason, but when it comes to stuff like this it has a lot to Answer for. There is nothing Wrong with asking if You could Buy something from the Yard, if they Say No then No it is.
My Brother lives in Narooma and sometimes when I am staying there We go to the Rubbish just outside Narooma. At this Tip they have a small Recycle Center where You can Buy stuff, I have seen a few Howard Rotary Hoes there. They Recycle the Scrap Metal (seperate bins for each), I Bought some short lengths ofStainless Tube there once for $5.00 a bargain.
I believe (I haven't been to them) that there is a big Recycle Centre at the Canberra Tip and possibly Cooma Tip. Oh if You go to the Canberra one and there is any Polys there just leave them there- LOL.All The Best steran50 Stewart

Someone designed that junk.
I avoid places like the one shown.
I worked in the appliance industry for a couple of decades and it is depressing to see things that you have done a lot of work on thrown out.
Mm.

We have "Tiny's big green shed" here at Canberra, its a very dangerous place, you never know what you will find.....
As for the Poly's they go straight to landfill and are not recyclable, just try to turn one over and check for a recycling number!
My dads local tip (undisclosed location...) is still like an old fashion tip. I've collected much good steel there!
