Sorry Dave I missed your post last night. Is your Tafe book a 3 volume set? If so I already have it, if not I'd like a scan thanks.
I'll be trying to get the ram off today. Is there anything that needs to be done about the galling? Or just a good clean and back together, its not like I can fix it.
Still no luck unlocking the adjuster, going to have to find a bigger wrench.
Thanks RC that looks more like my machine than the invicta manual I have. The manual I have has a new fangled shaft drive table feed The self act link on my machine is made from three pieces, I assume the factury one broke. There is also either a crack or a scratch in the top table way. I'll get some pictures soon.
The offending nut is nut 54 page 25. from the operating instructions on page 8.

Stuart,
Yes mine are the education department of Victoria 3 set but I am missing the 2nd one, If you see one around give me a yell as I would like to have it as well.
With the galling just make sure nothing is raised and if it is file it or stone it down level, It will help hold oil in the future.
RC
Thanks for the link to the manual. Elliot make more sense with their numbers over Alba with their 4S-6S etc.

Pictures. The first should be of my 3 piece selfact arm.
Followed by the "crack" as I first saw it, then one of it cleaned up. If its a crack its sure a straight one
I have the ram off which was a pain without stroke adjustment. Going to have to try stillsons next

That replacement arm has been done well. Someone took a lot of time making those ends nice and round with the off set.
The top definitely looks like a crack but the side I am not so sure about as it's dead strait.
If you use the stillsons you can clean the marks off latter in the lathe, I have done that on a few things myself. Sometimes you got to do what you got to do.lol

Dave I'll keep and eye out, you never know your luck. It now comes as one volume for about $80 from RMIT.
Having had a good look that the pictures I'm happy its just a knurled nut(I thought it may have extended into a counter bore) I'm try some more heat, I guess it depends whats jammed as to weather heat will make things better or worse.
I'm think about making a pin spanner and drill a couple of holes in the face of the nut, but thats less "fixable" then the knurling.

I had another look at mine and the shaft to adjust the stroke goes inside the the main table feed gear shaft and turns with it when it's running.
Have a look on the other side to see if the bevel gears are not binding on something or some other problem in their.

I just read that manual that RC posted and you do have to loosen the knurled nut before adjusting it. Must be something they changed between mine and the Elliot.

I have to loosen the knurled nut.... I had to get the stillsons onto mine the first time as well...
The knurled round nut is just a lock nut..

I just had a look at mine and remembered to unlock that knurled locking ring, if it is stuck tight you put the spanner on the square stroke adjuster and hit down (clockwise direction), that will then unlock the knurled lock ring...

Well that sounds like a plan.
I'm taking the knee off at the minute. Any ideas how the crossfeed nut is held to the cross slide body?
Off to get my hammer, will report back soon.

Good to hear you got it loose. Forums are great for finding out the tricks of the trade like RC's info.
You are lucky in that your taking it apart at home. I had to take mine fully apart on pickup for the guys back hoe to lift it.
At least it saved taking it apart at home to clean it, I will have to do it all over again when I fully clean it up and paint it.
