    Hi Woodfast,
You need to make 2 matched wedges with a slot in the middle to fit over the neck of the shank, driven from each side they should pop the chuck off its taper. It's been discussed before, i'll try to find a link.
    Cheers,

This should give you the right idea. https://www.woodworkforums.com/f65/chuck-wedge-147801/

    Two ways Woodfast.

The nicest way is by using wedges. The less nice way is by drilling a hole axially through the body of the chuck and belting the arbor out with a drift. A have a pair of wedges in the shed. I don't feel like getting my feet wet so if you can wait till the morning, I'll let you know then if they fit a 14N. If they do they will be in the mail to you on Monday on the condition you post the bastards back.

    Default Removing taper shank.

    Hello Woodfast,
Had to remove a broken shank (JT6) from a rock coring drill just the other day. If your arbor is U/S just cut it off near flush. You will find it case hardened but the core of it is fairly soft. Drill it out a bit undersize in the lathe, then flash some heat on the remaining shell and toss some cold water on it. The hollow stub wil fall out. Works for me,

    David,

Unfortunately the No.2 wedges I have do not fit a 14N's 3 Jacobs 2 Morse arbor. I have drilled through all of my ball bearing chucks to facilitate arbor removal.

Bob What size drill would you use to drill chuck through something like 3/8 or smaller
