Congratulations on an excellent restoration, it's a bit of inspiration to try and do better on my own haphazard ( and unfinished ) restoration jobs. It's not just a matter of preserving a bit of engineering history, it's also a matter of appreciating the quality and robustness of the earlier generations of tools.. When I think of comparing this heavy duty monster J&S with something like a Bunnings Ryobi plastic drill press....

Nice set up on the line boring, one question, how did you feed the cutters through?
As I couldn't see any way that it was pushed/pulled through. Did I miss something!!!!!

Thanks for the nice reply's.The drill should be good for quite a while now, I will not be able to wear it out. RayG it certainly is a robust unit, when I first drilled with it I put on my vise and a piece of 20mm thick stock and drilled a 1/2" hole with the power feed set at the slowest rate and a speed of 44 RPM in back gear,to easy. After that I put my largest drill 1-13/64" in and it went through it with no effort. I increased the feed rate up to medium and used the 1-13/64" drill with no pilot hole and it did it with ease. You do have to stand back as it generates a decent size lump of swarf. With the current motor set up it has a speed range of 15-700 RPM.

    Hi Kryn,
The line boring job had me scratching my head for a while. I used a single cutter and used the mill to supply the power and down feed. Job took way longer setting up than doing.

I must have been asleep to have missed all of this. Another example of your outstanding work Bob. Very well done.

Thanks Bob,I have just come in from my workshop as it is getting too hot. I just used the J&S (any opportunity will do ) to drill a couple of 7/8" holes for another project. Its like stepping back in time hearing the flat belt running over the pulleys and the bit just keeps cutting.
