Live centre
Just popped in from the Pen Turners Forum to seek alittle advice. I recently bought a Sieg C2 metal lathe and I am after an MT2 live centre for it with a diameter around 35mm or less. The live centre I have for the wood lathe has a diameter to big to be effective on the metal lathe. I have done a search on the internet including Ebay and most are around 45mm in diameter. I can get one from the US but the postage is as dear as the centre. Can anyone suggest a place I can get one from please.
Thanks
Greg

The Sorby set would probably be good Fred, except I can't track one down. The Queensland agents are Carbatec and they haven't got one in stock that I can see. I will phone them tomorrow.

Hi Greg,
You probably won't find a metal working MT2 center that is that small. They tend to have to put up with a lot more stress than a wood lathe one hence the larger bearings/larger OD.
You could get an MT1, the CTC ones are 34mm OD, 13mm cone dia, and you can get a MT2-1 sleeve. All up $34 and about a weeks wait.
eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d The sleeves are under Tool and Workholding, adapters and sleeves.1915 17"x50" LeBlond heavy duty Lathe, 24" Queen city shaper, 1970's G Vernier FV.3.TO Universal Mill, 1958 Blohm HFS 6 surface grinder, 1942 Rivett 715 Lathe, 14"x40" Antrac Lathe, Startrite H225 Bandsaw, 1949 Hercus Camelback Drill press, 1947 Holbrook C10 Lathe.

Thanks Fred.
I had sent an email to Jim but I think we were at cross purposes given the reply I received so I have sent him another email and will probably order the Sorby from him. I was hoping for a cheaper live centre but its the old story I suppose - you get the quality you pay for. It does have the adaptors as you mentioned which will no doubt come in handy one day when I progress past the basics.

Jim got back to me today. The dimensions of the Sorby kit are - The holder 2mt is 31mm. The 60 degree cone is 19mm dia. 21 mm long. That should do nicely.
Thanks Fred

There is a smaller 60 deg cone as well which is the main one I use for my pen stuff.
I put up a link to it in your other thread, but you must have missed it, here it is
