JT33 keyless chuck?
I'm finding it hard to buy a good keyless chuck for my drill press in this uncommon taper (for Australia). I tried a couple of cheapies, but the runout is so bad it's not funny. It doesn't have to be super accurate, but I at least don't want to see the thing wobbling! Any pointers to a supplier in Oz?
Jacobs taper JT33, capacity 1/2 inch/ 13mm.

Nice old parchments, thanks Bob. The current Jacobs seem to be made in China, but they carry the famous maker's brand so hopefully are good gear. Albrecht is probably a bit better than needed - they always do top notch stuff, don't they? Rohm is looking likely.

Jordan,
I've purchased all my Jacobs chucks on US Ebay. They are ball bearing Super chucks. They dont slip, but unfortunately, aren't available with a 33 taper socket. I have a 1/2" Rohm Supra keyless chuck that I used to use in the lathe tailstock, but now I only use the the Jacobs.
Is the 33 taper an integral part of the drill's spindle?

I wouldn't sweat the postage too much. The maximum you should pay for something like that would be US$45, and if you get it through a retailer there would be still plenty of room in the pre-paid box for other goodies. I haven't looked for you, but try Enco, I've always found their service excellent and freight very reasonable.
On the other hand if you must buy local, pick an engineering supplier of choice, they should be able to order one in. Just don't forget the Vaseline for the rodgering that will accompany it

Edit: ergh I'm breaking for a cup of tea so thought I'd check for you anyway. Here you go, genuine Jacobs keyless chuck 80 bucks Oz, plus no more than 40 for freight (almost certainly less) http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INSRIT?P...PMAKA=319-3119 I see a local well known retailer selling some Chinese POS (with the wrong taper for you) for almost a hundred, so I'd call this one an easy decision in my books anyway.

Yes, there's no morse taper unfortunately. It's a nice old Walker-Turner drill press, ex-CSIRO. I looked up the model, it was patented in 1935 although I'm sure mine is more recent. It has 4 special, sealed bearings in the quill and pulley. I thought I was snookered there. However, I was able to buy new ones from USA for $40 the lot, delivery included.

yes Enco certainly export and I find them extremely helpful in making this happen. Unless you need it in a real hurry, make sure they understand you want it freighted the cheapest method, typically USPS. It should then go on your account details and than any subsequent orders will be sent that way.
I know there are many of us here who have absolutely no hesitation in buying from foreign companies. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to support the local guy, but some times I get the impression they can't be bothered with us "small guys" anyway.
