Once again many thanks Malb for your generous help.

However, it did cross my mind that others might see this and take themselves out. However these people are probably also the type to download the "Anarchist's Cookbook" and end up as a headline not long afterwards...

If anyone wants to do this, make sure you know what you are doing!!! My TIG (and MIG and stick) welding did improve somewhat after 18 months of night classes at TAFE. If your welding is not up to scratch of you have any other safety concerns please do not attempt this.

Wow, is the world getting so litigious that we have to put a disclaimer on forum posts?

It's pretty much going to be used as a big kettle in the short term. When I do connect it up in a pressurised system the relief valve will be fitted. A new shed has to be built for that to happen. I am not in the financial position at the moment to have the LUXURY of TWO electric hot water services running all the time...

    Ditto. LOL!

Has my childhood ended? Now I have bigger toys and (sometimes) disposable income... and I can make my own beer

I should get the HWS back together today. I will post pics.

Electric Aquamax is back together... currently being tested. There is a leak but nothing more PTFE tape won't fix (story of my life, never enough PTFE tape on the first attempt).

Bit of rust on the inside of the Colourbond cover, hit it with cup (wire) brush on angle grinder. How do we control wayward insulation on cylinder? Shrink wrap it! I worked in warehousing/logistics for a while and got myself dizzy running around pallets with this stuff, and it never ceases to amaze me how tough this stuff is (if used properly). I reckon you could tie up the USS Missouri with shrink wrap. Cost is around $20 from packaging supply shops, a roll will last you ages and has a million uses.

Bit of Silver Gal should hold back the rust bugs for a while. The HWS is going inside the shed so it should be okay.

Yay! The thing is back together and is being tested under power. I have not shown wiring because it is a little jury rigged and might give persons the wrong idea about how hard it is to not kill yourself. Soon it will have a proper terminal block, a cable gland, and a little neon light to show that the element is on. Perhaps down the track a LED readout showing actual temperature.... no wonder I never finish things....

Is 'repurposing' the 'new black'? I reckon it has a better 'carbon footprint' than a Toyota Prius....

Can I keep my V8 Kingswood now?

This is an interesting thread, keep it going people!

PS Good thing it's finished... I need to use the Triton

I have had the same problem in the last few years. As a teen my Dad always told me 10 turns would be enough, and it was back then. But now 10 turns is never enough, i don't know whether the tape is thinner or the fittings made to larger tolerances or both!

It should work a treat, wow, hot water in the shed, luxury!

Hmmmm........Red Lead and Hemp was ok, but they reckoned it poisoned you, not sure whether that only applied when you smoked it though

PTFE tape, I don't like it much, tiz a bit rough like plumbing in general.

Loctite is my favorite for everything, oil, gas, air, water , yup ........everything
