In hobby usage that would be a weeks work for less than a dollar.

Physical size of the motor isn't always a good guide to hp or efficiency.

Does that apply to single phase also?

Would it be better to swap a new single phase motor in or run a VFD?

No, single phase motors draw appreciable current with no load. No load rotor currents are higher and rotor losses are higher.

Depends... I'd personally change the motor to delta and run off a vfd.

If you decide not to take it and can't find a buyer for it, I'd be interested in just the vertical head.

Personally, if I was you, I would seriously consider buying it.
    Cheers.

    Hi Ray

I think it is 80 cents plus the service fee and the smart meter installation cost plus the other hidden fees .

It would be great if it was just 80 cents but we dont live a perfect world

The power companies are claiming they have to upgrade the grid but that is not the truth - they are pushing new lines into areas that don't need new lines , they use this as an excuse to rip us off . Some rural towns have actually opposed the new power lines as they know it means higher power bills will follow . Mike

My 3 phase power costs have never been all that expensive and I've done it 3 times.

WRT the complaining about power distribution upgrades, we're getting off topic so I'll merely observe that anyone who objects thereby forfeits for all time any right to complain if they lose power or are subject to rolling blackouts. I spent time working in a 3rd World country where this was a daily occurrence and let me say that it gets real old, real fast. OTOH I got a lot of SCUBA diving done and got paid for it.
