So, I only have some old push style knurling tools, that will do 1mm (or 5/64"?) spacing easily in alloy/brass, or with difficulty in steel.

A neighbour needs some chunky knurls in 22mm diameter steel (1045 or 4140).
So, I need 3mm wheels, and probably a clamp or scissor style tool.

...but then I looked at the Toolmaker's expensive knurling tool that actually cuts the knurl texture out,
and I started thinking.

Has anyone tried grinding the side of a standard knurl, to get it to cut little chips instead of pushing little valleys?
