    G'day Phil,
I'd love to be going but it looks like I'll be stuck working in Tassie.
Take some photos and post them up if you get a chance.
    Cheers,
    Greg.

Well, Lake Goldsmith was outstanding as usual but for some reason I took bugger all pics.
I have to admit I was focused on finding any Jones and Shipman drills of which there were none.
First Pic is of the Aveling and Porter steam roller I did a tiny bit of work on.
Second pic is of a bargain I saw of a small Rexman lathe.
Third pic is of possibly the best restored example of a Ronaldson Brothers an Tippett oil engine I have ever seen.
And the last pic is of a steam engine indicator that I would dearly love to own so if anyone has one lying around in their shed I would love to know about it.

Phil, for those of us who are ignorant, what are all those bits, what do they do and is there anything special about that particular one or just a one of many that do the same thing?

    Phil,
Thanks for keeping an eye out for the Jones & Shipman drills, it seems like they are pretty thin on the ground. At least you had good weather by the looks of it. Temperature in Ballina has dropped to 10 degrees overnight with a very cold south westerly wind, feels like straight of the snow.

    Hi Michael,
Hardly ignorant, these things aren't used very much at all these days needless to say.
Mind you we have a big use for one.
I have to start work early this morning so I will show what the bits do tonight.

    Hi Bob,
they sure are thin on the ground.
I will get a chance today to get some pics of ours.
The weather was a blinder out at goldsmith, it shocked everyone out there, normally it rains for the rally

    Hi Michael,
due to the fact that I am the explainer from hell, I have tried to find an explanation for you but there seems to be very little info on steam engine indicators.
I did find a short clip on one being used on the belle of Louisville stern wheeler. (sadly he has filmed it with the camera on its side)

As it happens, a mate of mine has just purchased one and will be bringing it here to show me this weekend.
I am going to try and talk him in to letting me hook it up to one of the engines at work but if not, then I will take a clear pic of the components and attempt to explain what they are for.
This is the Belle of Louisville.
