Lake Goldsmith Steam Rally
I went to the LakeGoldsmith steam rally yesterday and if old engines, tractors, steam or industrial things blow your skirt up then I would highly recommend a visit to this twice a year event.
I usually have an engine on display however magneto problems prevented this yesterday, the up side being I had more time for the lookin'.
Here's a few photos some of you might enjoy:
Photo1 is a small Macson variable speed drill, no need to program a VFD here. I have seen these before but not in this small size.
Photo 2 is a small camel back drill again unusual in this size.
Photo 3 is one for you shaper blokes and continues the small theme, I would guess the stroke to be in the 6 inch range and despite not seeing any makers mark it appeared to be factory made. It's about 2/3 the size of a 10" Douglas.
Photo 4 is probably my favourite engine on the site. When this 1934 twin cylinder Ruston rated at 132HP is running its 3+ ton flywheel at 235RPM you can really feel it and get an appreciation of its power.
Photo 5 is one for Phil (Steamwhisperer) a John Fowler traction engine, just one of the many fantastic steam machines running on the site.
Cheers,
Greg.

Thanks for the pics Greg. I spent most of the day there going in and out of all the sheds. There really is a lot of stuff to see. Pity we didn't bump into each other. Would have been good to catch up.

Or is there secret steam and machinery business going on in sunny Nowra?

I'll be back for the 100th in November so if you're there then Phil we'll have to arrange a rendezvous.
I'll also be at the Gisborne rally on the 20th of May if anyone else is planning to go I'm always keen to catch up with fellow forumites.
And just for Bob here's a few more photos, of course anyone else can have a look too if they want .
Photo 6 is the front of the 200HP 160PSI Boiler in the main steam hall. This was built by Thompsons Foundry in Castlemaine which was the subject of one of Andre's posts a week or so ago.
Photos 7 & 8 are a pair of beautiful Blackstone engines dating from the early 1900's. The one in photo 8 is one of the most complete original specimens you will find anywhere.
Photo 9 is one that warms the cockles of the heart, kids having fun that doesn't involve a computer or an I-something or other. While safety is well considered kids are encouraged to get up close and personal with most of the exhibits and really experience what it's all about.
Photo 10 is a smaller Ruston engine with what might be a Douglas shaper in the background but I'm not sure.
Photo 11 is the front end of the 132HP Ruston engine.
Cheers,
Greg.

About the same as taking 40 photos at someone's 21st birthday and realising the film had not engaged the take up spool. Never forgot to test that there was tension on the rewind knob after that. That was 30 years ago. Now it's flat batteries.
Thank you Greg for the additional photos.

Just remembered I had this from the rally. Perhaps Joe could lose the repulsion induction motor and use this.

Hi all, I only joined the forums an hour ago and what do I find? Steam engines, my other hobby (along with woodturning). I'm a member of the Campbelltown Steam Museum, part owner of a Fowler steam roller. Our next open days are 13-14 October. If you come along make yourself known and I'll give you a ride...Dennis
