I use the lathe to make & repair stuff for my car that I drag race, also help a few other people that race.
"Bryan" I'll take some pics.

Undergog, it's good to see someone else with the same style Macson......I was getting lonely there for a while.
Here's a pic of a 4 jaw chuck that I converted from D1-6 to the early Macson spindle. If I can find a lathe that is being wrecked, I'll adapt a D1-6 spindle to this lathe so I can find chucks etc. that fit easy.
"aussiejoeblow" the Macson lathe does seem to be few & far between. A friend of mine has slightly later model than mine, it has a D1-6 spindle & "V" bed not a flat bed. I'm not sure whether the serial# can identify the age of a Macson, but the serial # is 60-226 maybe 1960?
I probably should mention some specs about the machine.
14" swing over bed
21" with the gap out
36" between centres
speeds from 32-800
weighs about 1500kg
Here is my new toy. Hare and Forbes Hafco AL340E.
356 swing over bed
515 swing over gap
1000 between centers
2Hp 3 phase
35 - 2000rpm
DRO
Leadscrew Covers
Cuts more threads than I will ever need
650kgs
I'll give it a full review when i get to know the machine. Initial opinions are that its very nice. All the controls glide and feel fantastic and it cuts very well and runs quiet. Im not impressed with the signage though...60% of the available real estate for important things like threading and feed settings have been taken up with some rubbish safety notices, as such I have to double over to read the miniscule text that describes the crucial settings. Going to have to make up some larger signs and stick them up on the wall behind the lathe.
Note - in the pics below this is how she arrived straight out of the box. I have since degreased her and installed the DRO.

Looks good, I was wondering how you where going to operate it without handles, LOL
Your right, those charts a terrible, are they just stickers or are the engraved in? Good idea of making charts of them to hang up.
I see they have laid your cross slide scale down, in the future you might want to change it to standing up, so your tailstock has more room to come up to the cross slide.
With the lead screw covers I have heard complaints out them limiting travel at each end, but have not owned a lathe with them myself.
Have fun with your new toy, I mean tool. LOL
Dave
Hi Dave,
Yeah the scales take up a bit of room on the right of the comound there...if they give me the sh!ts I will move them as you reccommend.
I have heard the same about the leadscrew covers..however mine dont impede me with the 3 jaw in (I could work right up to the face of the chuck if I wanted)...not sure about whether I could do the same with a faceplace though
wish I had mine for Xmas
If I'd pulled a digit or two out I would have:(
You need to stop working so you have time.:D

Hi Eskimo,
Nice work, how did you sneak it past the finance manager? :)
