Here is the lathe I recently acquired. Its a 12x36 and it runs great. I'm just getting started in machining and looking forward to turning and learning.

Hi all, First post here but thought i'd better show off some pics of my Conrik/Great Scott.
I'm not really sure which one it is as it has no nameplate, only a Ministry of Munitions Tag
I think its from the 50s as the Ministry of Munitions was only named so from 54 to 58?
I have had her for 6 years or so, when i got her she was in bits, the bright spark i got her from thought he would make a wood lathe out of her and gave up half way.
As you can tell either she makes plenty of chips or i don't clean up enough. She needs some more work, but i need a second lathe to rebush the bearings etc so i am on the lookout.....
For those with good eyes, yes i think thats a southbend (or one of the may copies)countershaft unit, and certainly not the original.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Thats a nice solid looking lathe, and I especially like the cross slide and carriage T slots. Looks like you got all the gear to go with it as well which was a good score. I am not sure why the guy was going to convert it to wood when it's got many years left as a metal lathe.

great scott
Hi
That is a impressive old lathe . I've never seen T slots going across the bed like that before , it would be a very handy idea .
What type of headstock bearings does it run ? I think I can see split bushes ?
Just think about all the gun or artillery parts that lathe has made

Just looking at the spanner at the end of the crosslide. I see the saddle is designed with milling in mind but does the crosslide also function as a vice?
