more pictures
Cooper, here are some more pictures. You can have your parents ring me on 0418174762 to confirm the legitimacy of my offer. I'm in no hurry to get rid of it, so don't stress over the pick up date. I can probably organise a little tooling and some BMS bar stock to get you going. You will have to source a 240 volt single phase motor to adapt. Don't fall for trap of getting something really cheap with low horsepower. It will frustrate you no end to have to limit your cut sizes so as not to kill your motor RPMs. Get the biggest motor you can. I'm sure your parents won't mind getting a dedicated 15 amp circuit installed for you!! Haha.

So with the motor, all I need to look for is a electric motor that has high horsepower and that will fit in the mounts also with the 15 amp circuit will that need to be installed on the lathe right or does it get installed some where else, sorry for a stupid question lol.
by the way did you used to be a machinist or something else
And does the stock 3 phase motor come with the lathe because i might be able to get a single to 3 phase converter.
I asked Dad about the pick up and he said that he wouldn't mind if he went on a long weekend so im guessing its a yes for pick-up
Those pictures of the lathe look pretty good ill probably try and get rid of the rust some how not to sure how and maybe paint some of the parts if i have time.
Edit: what is BMS?

www.lathes.co.uk/sheraton/
That site is pretty much the first place to look for info on any machine. Tony will probably sell you a manual too, but it won't be cheap.
You might want to have a look at the Hercus forum, since the Sheraton is very similar I believe.
With the motor, get the 3 phase one if you can, it gives you options for later. Meanwhile, look out for a single phase, capacitor start motor, about 1 hp ( .75 Kw).

Have a look here
Not certain this is a Conquest, but it looks close.
The dedicated 15A circuit was a joke - I believe.
You should look for something between 3/4 to 1.5 HP and 1440 rpm. You can plug any of those into a normal 10A powerpoint.
Make sure you get someone who knows what they are doing to wire up he motor and switch. DON'T be tempted to do that yourself! (I know I would have when I was 14.... now I know that I could have killed myself with several such projects when I was your age.... I was vert lucky!)

The Lathe is a Sheraton Conquest,(metric),would be similar to the Hercus 260.
If it was together it would be selling for well over $2000.00.
DONT by a motor for it untill you can get the Dimensions for the motor mount and shaft size.
If you ask Eric might be able to let you know the Frame type and shaft size so you could look for a suitable 240 motor if that is the way you wish to power it.

I was thinking of getting a new motor until I actually get the lathe so then i can take the old motor and look for a another one the same mounting holes but in single phase.

Probably not as RARE as the Hercus 260G or DG,the Conquest come up for sale occasionally, you would have to do a google search to find pictures of complete machines, might take a little while to find.
