I have a car trailer with a manual hydraulic hoist on the side.

    In Canberra.
You can borrow it if you need.

I agree, it was bad enough trying to move a Vicmarc VL 300 along a path that was too small for the pallet, let alone lifting that weight into a vehicle.

So today went well. I took everyone's advice and transported the lathe by trailer. I used a couple of pallets to increase the height of the lathe to be able to "strap it down". The drive went well, I pulled over a couple of times to check the straps but I need not have. The day took a lot longer than I expected, as when I had another look at the stand I realised that it was 900mm wide (way wider than it needed to be). The stand is not ideal at all for this lathe but it is all I have at the moment. I decided to cut the stand and remove some of that width. The way the stand was made I was only able to reduce it so much, the final wide was 650mm which fits heaps better in my shed. It was a bit of a rush job as I didn't have anywhere to store the lathe whilst it was in the trailer overnight in case of rain. So long story short, two hours, a few cutting disks and some argon later the stand was finished.

Then it was time to call the cavalry (I am not a very big guy and this thing must weigh close to 400kg). The big lift from the trailer to the stand went off without a hitch and the stand was wheeled in place for the night (it was getting dark). Tomorrows job is to better center the lathe and chip pan on the stand and check some levels. I am half way through installing a DRO on my mill so I will have to pick between what I want to play with first.

Here are a couple of picks from the day:

Again, thank you everyone for your help and ideas. I am very happy.

Very nicely made and thought out Michael, I will have to copy this.
Would this size motor be big enough for a Seig SX3L table 700 X 160 mm?

Just another though how big a motor would you need to move the head on the Z axis?

Here is a small video I did on creating a power feed for my X2 mill (I am sure there are numerous things I am doing wrong in the creation of this item):

    Hi Mick,
That's a great video clip, the only problem was that at the start of the parts list, it went to fast for me to see what they were, would it be possible to put the list here or send me a PM please.
I too have a C2 lathe and X2 mill, have you had any problems with them??
    Regards
    Kryn
