    Sorry for being pushy, I saw you online at the time, and couldn't work out why you hadn't noticed my question. May I ask nicely if you would try your solution on a piece of steel.

    Hi Ken,

    I tried blackening a bit of steel, seemed to work ok, (It went black, go figure) I don't think it is as durable as oil-blackening, but I dare say it would be better than matt black paint.

    I see it's uses as being more decorative than anything else, I'm pretty happy with the way it worked on Aluminium, much better than paint, but I wouldn't compare it with anodizing.

    I generally don't bother logging out of the forums, so it might seem as if I'm on-line but i'm probably not.
