4 wires come from the switch they are red, yellow/green, black, blue
4 wires from the motor going to a 4 pole block connector are 2x black and 2xblue

Hi Lofty,
Any chance of a picture of the switch? Is it for the lathe or just something you picked up?
I dont think you can reverse a cap start single phase motor with just a DPDT switch. I think you need three poles. But I'm happy to be proved wrong.

Having just wired a four pole cap start 3/4HP single phase motor the manuafacturers instructions said to change two wires to reverse direction - I had to do this to run counter clockwise. The instructions were swap the red and black motor wire which would be specific to this motor so sorry not able to help with your motor.
I would guess running these two wires through a DPDT switch would make my motor work too.Cheers,
Rod

Hi Lofty,
Welcome to the forum, I think it's best if you take it to a local electrician to help out, it should only be a 5 minute job once they can identify the wiring.
The motor wiring, there should be two pairs, one pair is the main run winding, the other pair should be the start winding in series with the capacitor.
The run winding connections are active and neutral, the rotation direction is determined by which way round the start winding is connected.
Not much help I'm afraid...
Regards
Ray

Lofty,
I have a schematic that may help you. I have tried to scan it from the underside of the terminal box cover but that did not work too well.
I need to redraw it for my own records so if you are still looking for something give us a yell and I'll get onto it.
This circuit does not have a rev switch but it indicates which wires to change over to reverse the motor. That of course is what the DPDT switch does.
Rgds.
