Stuart makes a valid point about electrical component costs & labour in Australia. Not being a retail buyer I forget how quickly costs can get stupid. Obviously a repair cannot wait for ebay deals to pop up unless its done as a hobby. I have collected enough gear for my own lathe's complete re-motoring for around $600. New cost of the servo and drive etc would have been closer to $5000.00

If such a thing could be organised easily I imagine the Chinese could ship the entire electrical content for cheap.

Brendan H&F are getting a new range in this one is replacing the now defunct AL54B https://www.woodworkforums.com/f65/ne...market-143616/

Someone mentioned a range down Melbourne he has seen this was the only one at latest H&F sale days.

Brendan tried doing a search for photo of your lathe can't find one at all maybe just didn't do the search right.

"I was wondering the same thing, I guess it depends how bad the damage is, would take more than a few hours if it needed a full rewire. Buying the parts in the control box in Australia would likely cost more than the lathe."

Yep, especially when its all three phase gear.

    Hi Brendan,

I don't think they would bother fixing your lathe. As pointed out, once they pay for parts and labour costs, they are then also bound to give a warranty. If something else were to go wrong with it (lets face they have zero knowledge on what can go wrong with a machine tool) they would have to repair that too. It's not worth the risk. I think they would just cut their losses and get you a new one. Also, most insurance companies have authorised suppliers and tradespeople. They pay top dollar for parts and labour. So a repair that you and I would expect to cost $1000 (if we did it ourselves) would most likely be quoted as $3000.

Good luck looking. Always fun to spend other peoples money.

    Happy hunting!

    Simon
