Default Looking for a 55 degree dovetail cutter.

Hi folks, I'm making a new top slide for my nuttal Herbert and require a 55deg dovetail cutter. Anyone have one to sell or swap? I've tried the usual places and not willing to mortgage the workshop for a new one.It needs to be 32mm dial or larger. The shaper is my next option.

If you do a search or just go back through the pages this was asked not so long back, I can remember there was some solution RC posted.

This is where I got mine from in September last year. At present he only lists a 45deg one, but I suggest you ask him (Daniel).
If you can't do any good at all, I would lend you mine (with the assumption that you replace it when you can if you break it).
Let me know how you go.
    Cheers,
    Joe

I buy mine through him as well, but have not bought a 55 deg one yet. His prices are about the best around from what I have seen and postage is pretty quick.

No it was not me that found a solution for finding a dovetail cutter... However if anyone requires assistance on removing all the teeth from said dovetail cutter I am able to offer plenty of advice and assistance in that regard.

Thanks for the offer, I may take you up on it. I missed that auction by a week as usual and it will be a while before he gets them in again but he didn't say exactly when. I have the Bridgeport table out for regrinding and wont be milling until that's back. Hopefully Ill have the cutter by then.

By the way I checked CTC with no luck.alibaba looks promising but they want too much personal info for me to be interested. I'm shaking my head at the beautiful teaser they pretend you're communicating with when sending off for a quote.....

How deep is the dovetail swarfmaker? I mean the vertical distance between the two flats intersected by the 55deg dovetail angle. My 55 deg cutter is a bit limited I found. From memory I was liimited to about 20mm before running out of diameter - hitting the cutter shaft. 35mm was the biggest diameter one I could get at the time.

Joe, It's around 1/2" deep. I'll hang out for a new one from Ebay for another month. RightMicro is the ebay store), I'll keep watching, the guy says he has an endmill run with his supplier and will do the dovetail cutters next. I'm restoring the Nuttal Herbert lathe and have had the bed and cross slide reground, Top slide is good but I want a new one to take the BXA QCTP. I don't want to butcher the original.

No problem with the dimensions then swarfmaker. PM me if and when you want to borrow mine. It's done a grand total of 16" of dovetail cuts - and those only from 60 deg to 55 deg. So its still perfectly sharp.
Should do your top slide no worries at all.
