Looking for a chunk of steel
I'm looking for a piece of steel 7 1/4 to 8 inches in diameter and 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 inches long. Something with some toughness such as 4130, 4340, 8620, A1, A2, W1, W2, etc, etc.
I want to convert my lathe to a D-1 type spindle nose to make swapping out chucks easier. If anyone has a piece, or knows of a good source please let me know. Found a nice piece on US Ebay, but shipping is ridiculous.
I may torch harden it then hard finish turn it if I can locate the appropriate inserts.
Thanks,
Stan
