Lost Bitz
Hi, can anybody help as I have all my mild steel parts electroplated so no more rust and they look great but am missing parts
The 20 tooth gear for the worm drive inside the gearbox
the bolts and adaptor and nuts to hold the side gears on
The nuts to keep the handles on
the keys to lock the handles on
The concentric on the apron
A copy of the spare parts catolouge
There is more but without a spare parts manual I cannot give a proper description
So can anybody help as I have emailed Mick Moyle's and now the forum to see if someone can help as I got about 90% of my parts back But just my luck to loose the other 10%
Hoping someone can help as I am now stuck wit a lathe I cannot assemble due to these bits and more missing
all the best Derek

Not sure abouy everything your after, the bolts& nuts to hold your gears to the Banjo bracket should be able to be sourced locally from an engineering supplies,if not Hercus may still have them or adapt any to suit the cut out in the back of the Bracket, its more so the length and diameter thats important.
In regards to the bushes that go through your gears Hercus may have these as well, try US ebay they have them at times,I usually make my own but that might be hard if your lathe is down.
In regards to the keys that hold your handles on I think they are woodruff keys once again try an engineering supplier or Hercus, same with nuts.
If you are wanting to keep everything original as it came out of the workshop it could become a bit costly.
Have you approached the company that did your electroplating for any type of compensation regards missplaced items.
In regards to the 20th worm you talk about not sure where this is located in your gearbox there is a 20th spur gear that goes on the end of the screw gear shaft,is that what you are reffering too.

OOPS It's a Hercus 9"Model A
Sorry Snowy, I was so mad at the parts missing that I forgot to say it was a 9" I went to Newmac in Bayswater but no good as the parts are obselete The main bit part no396is the Idler Gear shifter it was the same on all the Hercus lathes even the later model also Part no 410 No 413 clutch shoe expander No 413 Clutch knob No 406 Key for worm No 414 Clutch knob Screw L/H thread no 111 ,104,111a,and no 362 GEEZ the list just goes on and on so has anybody got a POWER FEED APRON ASSEMBLY or bitz as that may be the only way I might get all the parts and as the plating cost me nothing he is looking but the plater was the third person to handle the parts so who can I blame but myself as it took 3 people to get them plated and then returned the same way so the parts could be anywhere
and does anybody have a broken back gear assembly that might have a good small gear as I have 3 now and might look at making some so any body got any parts ?????
Hopefully someone has some bits as Mick Moyles had nothing know of anybody else ????
all the best Derek

Hercus hand wheel nuts
Hi Derek,
You seem to be in more strife than farmer Brown's prize bull that tried to jump a barbed wire fence, and miss-judged the height!
If I can help, I will.
For starters, attached is a drawing of the Hercus hand wheel nuts. I drew this up some time ago as one of mine went missing, and had been replaced with an ordinary hex nut, not a good look.

Unfortunately you can't really do much because you did not pay for the service so it would be difficult to make any claim . I don't think Consumer Affairs would take it on.
It is a shame that it did not work out.
A word of warning don't seem too desperate when sourcing parts . If they get the impression you are desperate the price will go up.
Always ask if they have any " spare parts " , and if they ask any questions just say OH I want it as a spare just in case I break one . Very dissapointing when things like that happen.

Lost hercus bitz
Hi Ken, thanks for the drawing have you got any others like the keys for the handles to lock onto the screw shaft. One thing that did come out was if your screw and nut is loose get them plated and boy they are as smotth as silk and the plater knew what he was doing as it is a different type of electroping it is like a cross with zinc and chrome and has made a marvelous job as for how long they will last who knows I am chasing 2 old screw shafts so I can remake new ones as these ones plated will do till I make the new shafts up
But if anybody has any bitz for a old Hercus 9" I would be gratefull for a email as doing 2 restores and 1 was incomplete anyway so any parts worn out or broken teeth I do not mind as I can remake so long as I have a part to take all the measurements off as I have 3 broken back gears and if someone has a back gear that has a broken large gear I would like to hear as well as I am in the deep end and just plain stuck as I cannot rebuild either lathe due to damaged gears or lost parts So just to keep me sane can someone please have a look at their bitz and let me know as my parts list just keeps getting bigger
also who can tell me what is the standard A-Belts required for the 9" as I need 2 belts but no idea what size I need as the original were rotten so anybody got any clues ????
all the best derek

If standard pulleys should be an A51 for motor and an A35 for spindle.
