Yes Ian that is correct.
I think it is a design flaw. Rather than repair it I think it would be better to make a new solid steel one. Just not sure I have the facilities to.

Does this explain the broken part more clearly

One of the bronze runner bushes is more worn down than the other.

Nice score!! One for restoration & one for spares! Actually they both look almost complete aside from the sheet metal side and motor??
Seems like mine is the only one with out a clutch lever..

According to these ads they can be supplied with clutch operated pulley or built in motor drive…. So I need to figure out if mine is missing a lever or a different model.

I think mine is different, compared to the photos of others posted earlier the casting is different.
The shaft is shorter and it doesn't have the mating end on the shaft
Does the vee belt dříve on the flat flywheel ?
Hi Andre,
Great pick up for $40.
Pretty sure mine has a vee belt running onto a flat pulley as well.
My new years resolution will to be get my Lotze up and running before next New Year's!
Ben.
Yep the vet belt drives that flat pulley on all the ones I have seen.
Hi,
Made some progress on the hacksaw. Got it wired up on Wednesday. Been told it's gotta go from the workshop soon (whatever that means). So will be spending more time putting it back together. Photo's soon I hope.
Ben
Hi,
Getting there! Hopefully will have it assembled by the end of next week.
The bronze bearings that the saw frame shaft run in both need replacing. After cleaning out years of gunk and grime from them there's about 2 mm clearance in the diam. We have bronze bar at work so I am thinking of replacing them but not at this moment.
I'm having a few problems with it jumping out of drive but that could be because I've got it on a wagon at the moment. Should be a simple enough adjustment anyway.
Ben.
Ben,
I bought a pair of bushes from Blackwoods. Might be an alternative to turning most of a bar to swarf - https://www.blackwoods.com.au/search...Product&page=9
Bob.
HI Bob,
How much did they cost and what size did you buy? I haven't measured the bar yet. When you removed the old bushes, did you hacksaw them and then punch them out or did you push them out with a press? And how did you refit the new bushes, I'm thinking pressing them in or a push fit and then loctite.
I'll probably have to replace the vee belt as well, its old and ratty. I missed a few spots with the paint as well.
Thanks Ben
Ben,
Before pushing out the bronze bushes and buying new ones, check that the steel shaft that slides in the bushes is still a constant diameter.
Ive read that they can loose that constant diameter, making sizing new bushes a tad more awkward.
That said, would be good to know what size Bob bought and if he needed to turn the shaft constant again.

Yeah, good idea. I was surprised to see the difference between the bushes and shaft before and after cleaning and re-assembly. I'll probably end up making new bushes from the stock at work but buying new bronze bushes you would think they would sintered & oil impregnated bronze.
