Through a loupe sniffing resin..
I’ve been fiddling with OCPs again, the new improved model has a few minor improvements over the original, not the least of which being a better electrical layout. The new one is of unit construction and sports a satin finish compliments of a green scotch brite wheel.
I can tell you it wasn't easy feeding the LED in, then routing the wires in and out the 5mm holes, soldering and insulating them, routing them back through again, seating the LED and then capping the top hole with a brass plug, hope I never have to repair it! I think I spent most of the afternoon peering through a loupe sniffing solder resin.
All done now, so if you’re still interested Kryn, the one on the right, (the original) is yours!

Not a criticism, but I am wondering why this ocp needs the illumination.
I have a manufactured unit,a Veritas and it works very well even in medium lighting situations.
Is there a big advantage to this.Enough to overcome the attachment which makes it less efficient for storage in a neat package ,ie suitable box.

Design?
I've never used a bought one, much less seen one so I have no idea what they are like. Must be my design then I think: whilst I can see the scribed marks on the job in good light, it's not the best if in a darkish workspace. I find the LED seems to make the cross hairs glow making it super easy to line everything up.

An over the counter version.
Purchased second hand about twenty years ago. Works well.

Ocp
That's a pretty lumpy lens, I did play with rounding the lens but after the polishing process the lens shape changed enough to distort the image. If I was to black the crosshairs they would be easier to see I guess, but as long as the light is ok I can see the work without too many problems and with the LED switched on it works extremely well Best of all is whenever I pull it out I get a little bit of satisfaction knowing I designed and built it myself.
