    Default Macson Metal Lathe

Pick this lathe up today as part of a group lot for some one and he isn't keeping it, so has given me first dibs on it.

There are no model no's or name plates on it apart from the cast Macson and a plate with the different feed rates for thread cutting. Sizes are roughly 12" swing over the gap with 7" over the bed and about 50" or 52" between centres

Comes with an assortment of tips and cutting bars, 2-4 jaw chucks and 1-3 jaw chuck, couple of faceplates and spindle steady.

Motor to go with it will come off another machine which is a 4 pole 3HP 240/480 volt motor, which will drive a set of pulleys off the back which then has a flat belt onto the pulleys on the main shaft.

All gears look to be in good nick and bed seems to be fairly good as well. Little bit of wear in the cross slide travel which I think is in the nut setup underneath.

Haven't found any info on another similar by googling yet, anyone know what it's worth?
    Cheers

    DJ

I have the geared head version of same lathe in my 1949 McPhersons (I believe they owned Macson) catalogue. So the lathe would be from that vintage. Have seen good examples go for $2k. My guess this one ~$500 or as little as you could pay. A big, heavy machine.

Interesting score DJ - looks like a fun project to get working.

Looks similar in many ways to my own lathe which is also a Macson. That has a 'Ministry of Munitions' badge on it to give some idea of its vintage. Wish mine had that gap bed though! Picked it up for $600 about 15 years ago.
